The BioLineRx SAB is the company's primary scientific review
board for all projects, screening them for entry into the BioLineRx
pipeline and monitoring their ongoing progress. With vast knowledge
in basic science, medicine and drug development, the SAB members
meet regularly with BioLineRx management and staff to optimize
and maximize the success of each potential drug in the pipeline.
Our core SAB is also supplemented by domain specific professionals
on a per project basis.
AARON CIECHANOVER, MD, PhD
Nobel Prize Laureate, Professor
of Biochemistry, Technion Institute of Technology
Professor Ciechanover is a recipient of the 2004 Nobel Prize
in Chemistry for, in collaboration with colleagues at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, identifying the first
ubiquitin system mutant cell and demonstrating the role of
the ubiquitin-proteasome proteolytic system in protein degradation
in vivo. Professor Ciechanover obtained his MD from the Hadassah-Hebrew
University Medical School in Jerusalem, and his PhD from the
Faculty of Medicine at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology
in Haifa. He is the winner of the 2000 Albert Lasker award
for basic medical research and the 2001 Israel Prize in Biological
Research. Professor Ciechanover's present work aims to elucidate
the mode of recognition of specific target substrates and
the role of the system in the degradation of nuclear oncoproteins
and in activation and elimination of transcription factors.
ALIZA ESHKOL,
PhD
Advisor for Scientific Affairs, Serono International SA, Geneva, Switzerland
Dr. Eshkol joined Serono in 1984 as Chief Scientist,
and later became the company’s VP for Scientific Affairs.
She played a major role in the company’s transition
from its traditional extractive products to biotechnology.
Dr. Eshkol was instrumental in setting up Serono’s critical
R&D structures, including all functions required for obtaining
marketing authorizations, from preclinical development through
clinical trial and regulatory management. Prior to joining
Serono, she worked from 1960 at the Institute of Endocrinology,
Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel. At Tel Hashomer
her research activity was focused on the regulation of gonadal
development and function, including purification of protein
hormones, setting up of animal models and development of analytical
and biological assay methods for both basic and clinical research.
There she was involved in the development of diagnostic and
therapeutic approaches for infertility treatment and monitoring.
The elucidation by Dr. Eshkol of the function and interplay
of certain hormones led to the development by Serono of new
generations of hormonal products. At Serono, Dr. Eshkol continues
to evaluate research projects, and assess the validity of
their scientific merits and the potential for their transformation
into medically valid products. She is a member of multiple
national and international professional societies and NGOs.
Dr. Eshkol earned her PhD in Life Sciences from Bar-Ilan University,
in Ramat Gan, Israel.

Nordisk), Candersartan Cilexetil (Astra Zeneca), and Medtronic’s
patented insulin pump and glucose sensors. Professor Phillip's
expertise and experience in both bench and clinical research
includes clinical studies from Phase II to post marketing.
His bench research is focused mainly on finding ways to prevent
diabetic complications and understanding the interaction between
hormones and the epiphyseal growth plate, while his clinical
research focuses on diabetes and growth, including studies
in immunomodulation and prevention of diabetes mellitus. Professor
Phillip is an Associate Editor and on the editorial board
of 3 medical journals and a member of the Pediatric and Diabetic
National Councils of Health.
